Hello I am Alex Gourlay, a cofounder and coach with Brothers of the Barbell. In 2018 I moved to New Bern, NC from Long Island, NY along with my fiancée Allison to teach elementary Physical Education. I have a BS in Physical Education from SUNY Cortland and MS in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with a concentration in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention from California University of Pennsylvania. My certifications include NSCA-CSCS, NASM-PES and NASE-CSS which allows me to work with athletes for speed and explosion. Growing up I played soccer year round and in college became immersed in volleyball. I have been powerlifting since 2015 and competed at USAPL Raw Nationals in Orlando in 2017 and have been working with people on the East Coast as an in-person and virtual coach. I love sharing my experiences and training knowledge with people of all levels and backgrounds. My mission is to help athletes train with the SIK Method in mind so they can train effectively and live life to the fullest. Your training should be one of the best parts of your day and I believe that having success allows us to live with passion and excitement for everything that we can accomplish. Each of us speaks a common language in the gym and that is self improvement, so whatever it is you do get after it!
